Choreographer Justin Rapaport describes his inspiration in a press release. “Winter solstice, countless night time… really easy to lose oneself in that darkness. Justin is a contract dance artist. I take advantage of jazz, swing/lindy hop, and modern motion woven in new palettes that discover rhythm and groove,” says choreographer Rodney Diverlus.
Rodney is a Haitian-Canadian motion artist whose work fuses jazz and modern dance. He was the winner of the 2019 Canadian Stage Award for Route, and has debuted world premiere items with Toronto Dance Theatre, Tapestry Opera, and Toronto Metropolitan College.

“This composition delves into the aftermath of the solstice, analyzing its connection to our lives and the teachings we derive from it. There are moments when it looks like this darkness won’t ever dissipate. Nonetheless, as within the pure cycle, daylight inevitably returns. This piece explores the profound nuances of those darkish moments, delving into the sensation that they may persist indefinitely,” says choreographer Hanna Kiel.
Dora award successful choreographer Hanna Kiel is a founder and creative director of Human Physique Expression, and a resident choreographer at Canada’s Ballet Jorgen.
