Beforehand unseen footage of the legendary Captain Beefheart performing in Paris has been posted on-line.
The footage, which was shot on the famed Bataclan nightclub on April 15, 1972, on the European leg of Beefheart’s Highlight Child tour, was initially filmed for the French TV present POP2.
Though a model of Click on Clack was broadcast on POP2 and audio of the whole, seven-song set has circulated amongst collectors, no different footage from the present was identified to exist. Nonetheless, the French Radio and TV archive INA (Institut Nationwide de L’audiovisuel) has now revealed a model of Abba Zaba filmed on the similar present.
The opposite songs carried out on the Bataclan have been Hair Pie Bake III, Alice in Blunderland, My Human Will get Me Blues, I am Gonna Booglarize You Child and Golden Birdies.
“My first date goes to be in Egypt,” Beefheart informed the NME forward of the tour. “I am gonna have a stomach dancer, a glass blower and a ballerina on the Albert Corridor.
“I’ve purple silk fits from China I put on on stage. I wish to put on silk. I’ve silk fits, silk shirts, silk socks. Air, you understand. I’ve executed a track for my subsequent album Brown Star referred to as Shiny Round The Edges With A Respiratory High. It is an attractive track, it is like a cheer. It is a good cheer although, not a foul cheer. You may like this subsequent album.”
Different acts to have appeared on POP2, which was introduced by Patrice Blanc-Francard and ran for 28 episodes between 1970 and 1973, included The Moody Blues, Grateful Useless, The Who, Jethro Tull, Gong, Frank Zappa, Smooth Machine, Alice Cooper, Mott The Hopple and – maybe most famously – Genesis, whose Bataclan efficiency was extensively circulated not too long ago after the unique footage was rescanned in 4K.
