Earlier than we begin, a warning: This live performance features a tune about suicide.
From the second Yseult stepped behind the Tiny Desk to rehearse, her fearless, full-out vitality left the staff in shock. The French singer-songwriter blends chanson française, R&B and pop with a punk-ish je ne sais quoi. You could have seen her carry out in the course of the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer time Olympics, however her vulnerability and experimentation makes Yseult a no brainer for our Tiny stage.
The vigorous set kicks off with two hauntingly lovely tracks, “SUICIDE” and “MTV.” Yseult then gives a glimpse of an unreleased tune, “PROBLEMATIC,” adopted by the upbeat “CUTE,” which coaxes the gang with its playful, but easy groove. The ultimate tune, “GARÇON,” is the cherry on high of a efficiency that will likely be etched in my mind ceaselessly. Yseult does all this whereas donning a T-shirt with the phrases “BITCH YOU COULD NEVER,” a tune title from 2024’s MENTAL, on full show. Truthfully, she’s proper. I do not assume any artist might have carried out what she did.
