On Friday (Jan. 31), the MusiCares Individuals Of The 12 months charity gala celebrated the Grateful Useless. The band’s Mickey Hart and Bob Weir have been available, and with Useless & Firm they carried out “Althea,” “Sugar Magnolia,” and “Contact Of Gray.”
On the Los Angeles Conference Heart, different performers included the Struggle On Medication, Vampire Weekend, John Mayer, Zac Brown, Noah Kahan, Maren Morris, Billy Strings, the Struggle And Treaty, My Morning Jacket, Stewart Copeland, Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Hagar, Norah Jones, Wynonna Judd, Lukas Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, Sierra Ferrell, Maggie Rose, and Bruce Hornsby who was as soon as a touring member of the Useless. (Earlier this week it was introduced scheduled performer Dave Matthews couldn’t make it on account of a household emergency.) Famous Useless fan Andy Cohen served as host.
Tune choices final evening included “Field Of Rain” (the Struggle On Medication), “Scarlet Begonias” (Vampire Weekend), “Buddy Of The Satan” (Noah Kahan with Béla Fleck), and “Ripple” (Norah Jones). The occasion follows a current tribute to the Grateful Useless at Kennedy Heart Honors and comes a couple of months after the demise of the band’s founding bassist Phil Lesh. Lesh’s son Grahame performed guitar as a part of the home band on the MusiCares gala together with Useless & Firm’s Jeff Chimenti, Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, and others.
