“I get a kick out of pissing off the purists.” From winding up demise steel legend Glen Benton to chaotic stay reveals of their underpants, Chat Pile are certainly one of steel’s wildest new bands


“It looks like the steel purists are just a little… shy about claiming us,” Chat Pile guitarist Luther Manhole admits.

He’s not flawed. Regardless of having a sound that crosses over into quite a lot of scenes – from hardcore to noise rock, alt steel and past – and releasing critically acclaimed albums in 2022’s God’s Nation and 2024’s Cool World, the Oklahoma Metropolis quartet appear to do a reasonably good job of pissing folks off. Not least as a result of they’re utilizing the iconography of maximum steel.
