Billy Strings paid tribute to his mom in an emotional Lexington gig simply hours after studying she had died.
The Grammy-winning bluegrass musician was on stage in Kentucky on Friday (June 20), and advised the viewers that his mom, Debra Apostol, had handed away.
Seeking to the group for help, the ‘Taking Water’ artist mentioned the present was “in all probability going to be one of many hardest issues I’ve ever accomplished”. He went on to warn the viewers he was uncertain how the night would go, saying the way it turned out was “up within the air”, and depended “on how a lot power I can muster and the way a lot I can lean on y’all.”
He mentioned that after enjoying in Michigan the evening earlier than, he had pushed along with his crew straight to Lexington and fallen asleep within the early hours. Afterward within the morning, Strings mentioned his spouse woke him up and “advised me that my lovely mom, Debra Apostol, had handed away in her sleep.”

He went on to say that after listening to the information, he instinctively began strolling till he encountered an outdated nation church and was let in by a lady there. “She stayed with me and prayed with me for some time, and finally gave me a trip again to the place I used to be staying,” he mentioned.
From there, Strings shared that he made the choice to proceed with the Rupp Area live performance “as a result of that’s what my mother would’ve wished me to do.”

“She actually beloved this group of individuals,” he advised the group. “She beloved y’all a lot. The final couple years had been a few of her happiest due to a number of you of us proper right here. Y’all grew to become a few of her greatest buddies, and I actually wish to thanks for that. The rationale I made a decision to not go residence and be with my household proper now could be as a result of I already am.”
He concluded by asking everybody to make noise for his late mom as he wept. He then welcomed his band to the stage for an emotionally charged rendition of ‘I’ve Simply Seen the Rock of Ages’.
